Knowing your body, Seeking Answers, Finding solutions, Getting Results!

Haven't been on in a while since I've been trying to get my own body straightened out. I found out my Adrenals were almost non existent, Iodine deficient, and found out my hormones were about the same. I am going to get back into the gym as need to tone up. I'm about the same weight but am also taking nutritional supplements for my adrenals, hormonal cream to correct, and Iodine daily so that's a step in the right direction.  I was given some vitamins and shake packets for Christmas by one of my clients. I've just decided to order some as when I took the 2 vitamins and waited 20 minutes then mixed the shake it really filled me up, gave me a lot of energy, and really flushed out my system. I didn't want to eat till later in the afternoon. Plus it really flushed my system out and hadn't seen my stomach flatten like that in a "while"!
I wouldn't have know about the vitamins and shakes but a client gave them to me for Christmas. You can order just yourself or become a promoter as it's the same price either way and it's free to sign up. You do not have to auto renew or any of that. I'm just sharing as this is what I'm adding to my own weight loss management supplementation and I think you'll like the way it makes you feel and results. Just sharing what I'm doing. Here's the link if you want to check it out. I just ordered mine. http://michellebever.le-vel.com/ I didn't sign up for the 8 week premium just the vitamins and shakes.
As dad used to say " Take what you need and discard the rest".  I've lived by that my whole life and don't ever do anything that feels wrong to you or that you aren't ready for yet.
My epiphany is - When you get the answers to why you are not feeling good, apply the solutions, and take productive steps forward ~ Life starts to become amazing again!

Natural Treatments for Your Seasonal Allergies

By Dr. Lisa Lewis, ND, LAc

An allergy is an overaggressive immune response triggered by ingesting certain foods, touching certain substances, or inhaling an irritant such as pollen or animal dander. Allergies to pollen, spores, mold, and dust (also called hay fever or allergic rhinitis) affect the respiratory system and are usually the most difficult to control.

Symptoms of hay fever are sneezing, runny nose, stuffy nose, watery eyes, itchy eyes and nose, and headache. Hay fever is often seasonal (when pollen is in the air), but if constantly exposed to an offending substance (e.g., pet dander), symptoms can last year-round.

From a naturopathic viewpoint, allergies are often associated with weak adrenal, immune, and digestive functions. Natural treatments are used to support and improve those functions and to alleviate hay fever symptoms. For seasonal allergies, beginning natural treatments (e.g., Stinging nettles) 1–2 months before the season starts can help reduce the severity of symptoms. Good health can help ease allergy symptoms, and good health starts with nutrition. People sensitive to airborne allergens may also be sensitive to certain foods. Identifying and removing those foods from the diet can greatly improve health and reduce allergy symptoms. This is best accomplished by the elimination and challenge diet.

Nutrition

To reduce allergy symptoms, eat a moderately low-fat, high-complex-carbohydrate diet. Drink 1/2 of body weight in ounces of water daily (e.g., a 150 lb person would drink 75 oz of water).
  • Include a lot of the following foods in the diet:
  • Dark green, leafy vegetables
  • Deep yellow and orange vegetables
  • Nettles, bamboo shoots, cabbage, beet tops, beets, carrots, yams
  • Onions, garlic, ginger, cayenne, horseradish
Eliminate the following from the diet:
  • Alcohol, caffeine, and dairy products
  • Bananas and citrus fruit
  • Chocolate
  • Food colorings (tartrazine)
  • Peanuts
  • Red meat
  • Sugar
  • Wheat
Supplements, Vitamins and Minerals
  • Bioflavonoids (e.g., quercetin, catechin, and hesperidin) - Take 2-3 grams daily. When symptoms are severe, take up to 6 grams. Bioflavonoids are natural antihistamines and strongly anti-allergenic. Bromelain and vitamin C can enhance the action of bioflavonoids. Combination products are available.
  • Flaxseed oil - Take 1 tbsp daily.
  • Probiotics (e.g., lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidus) - Take one in the morning and one in the evening. Probiotics are bowel microflora organisms—microscopic bacteria that normally inhabit the intestines. Buy a quality product that has 1-4 billion organisms per capsule.
  • Multivitamin – High potency and customized if possible.
  • Vitamin A - Take 25,000 IUs daily.
  • Vitamin C - Take 1-3 grams 2 to 3 times daily or to bowel tolerance. (Bowel tolerance is the amount of vitamin C that can be taken without causing diarrhea. This amount is different for each person and can change if the need increases because the body is stressed, injured, or ill.)
  • Vitamin E - Take 400 IUs daily.
  • Zinc - Take 30 mg daily.
Herbal Medicine

Herbal medicines rarely have significant side effects when used appropriately and at suggested doses. Occasionally, an herb at the prescribed dose causes stomach upset or headache. This may reflect the purity of the preparation or added ingredients, such as synthetic binders or fillers. For this reason, it is recommended that only high-quality products be used. As with all medications, more is not better and overdosing can lead to serious illness and death.
  • Some of the herbs used to treat hay fever symptoms are as follows:
  • Dong quai (Angelica sinensis) - Used as an antihistamine and anti-inflammatory.
  • Eyebright (Euphrasia officinalis) - Reduces congestion and secretions. It is good for itchy eyes, sneezing, and excess mucus.
  • Gingko (Gingko biloba) - Contains bioflavonoids and is used as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory.
  • Milk thistle (Silybum marianum) - Helps reduce allergic, inflammatory, and histaminic reactions and supports liver function.
  • Red clover (Trifolium pratense) - Helps build the body’s resistance to allergies.
  • Stinging nettles (Urtica dioica) - Used as an antihistamine and anti-inflammatory.
  • Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) - Reduces congestion and secretions.
Make a tea of one herb or a combination of herbs. Take 3 to 4 cups a day. If the herbs are in tincture form, combine several of them and take 1 -3 dropper 3 to 4 times a day.

Homeopathy

The standard dosage for acute symptom relief is 3 pellets of 30C every 4 hours until symptoms resolve. Lower potencies, such as 6X, 6C, 30X, may be given every 2 to 4 hours. If the right remedy is chosen, symptoms should improve shortly after the second dose. If there is no improvement after 3 doses, a different remedy is given. The following remedies have been shown to be effective in acute, symptomatic relief of hay fever or allergies:
  • Allium cepa - Indicated for bland, non-irritating discharge from eyes; copious, watery, acrid discharge from nose; hoarseness; and feeling better in cool air and open room.
  • Euphrasia - Indicated for symptoms such as copious, watery, acrid discharge from eyes; non-irritating discharge from nose; dry, hard cough; much sneezing; diarrhea; and feeling worse in open air.
  • Natrum muriaticum - Indicated for watery or egg white-like discharges; cold sores; no sense of taste or smell; headaches; and feeling better outside.
  • Nux vomica - Indicated for runny nose in daytime, then dry nose at night; violent sneezing; nose feels blocked but there is watery nasal discharge through one nostril; and feeling worse outside.
  • Wyethia - Indicated for extreme itching in the nose and throat; throat feels swollen; back of throat is dry and burning; and sensation as if something were in nasal passages.
Hydrotherapy
  • Castor Oil Packs
  • Constitutional Hydrotherapy
  • Cold cloth to the forehead
  • Hot foot baths
  • Nasal lavage
Other Recommendations

Acupuncture
  • Adequate rest and relaxation
  • Adrenal glandulars and thymus extracts to supportive the adrenal glands and the immune system.
  • Desensitization - Bee pollen and homeopathic remedies are used to desensitize people to the plants to which they are allergic.
  • Several minutes of vigorous exercise may relieve nasal congestion and stuffiness.

Can Supplements be taken to Help Anger... YES!

Here is a link to a great article, but it does not share all the Vitamins, Minerals, and More! (just plugged my book, ebook, and app) but it's true!  This is just one more article that makes us more aware that what we are deficient of in food or Vitamin/Mineral can make a big change in how we act and view the world.   It's not hard to take a Vitamin/Mineral or just add some of the food that is associated with them to begin the process of becoming less deficient and feeling better!

It's all about the herbs!

Herbs have been very important since the first time my son and I branched
out into the unknown territory of natural alternatives. We knew that by putting
back into the body what was deficient that the symptoms over a period of time
would lessen, but in the meantime we still had to deal with them. Prescription drugs
suppress the symptoms, but in a short period of time they recur. When we use
herbs to work with the symptoms, they rarely have side effects and generally always
work with the body, not against it.
The herbal drops (smart longevity and amps 2) work together to decrease
hyperactivity, increase attention span, and work with the blood flow to the brain.
We initially decreased the prescription drugs and increased the natural drops so
that my son's body didn’t go through any kind of shock. This took time but the
rewards for taking the time and being consistent are endless. The compulsive
behavior and the aggression still had to be addressed so we added Valerian Root,
Kava Kava, and St. John’s Wort. These herbs are considered controversial for
some individuals but in other countries they have been used for hundreds of years,
even in hospitals. The three herbs listed above, provides a considerable amount of
control and better attitude was displayed without altering my son’s personality in
any type of derogatory manner. His appetite increased and he gained much needed
weight along with the developing better self-esteem.
I have noticed that by adding the above herbs to our program we are both
able to cope better with situations and people with whom we come in contact.
During the allergy season herbal teas lessen hyperactivity often displayed during
this season. It calms both of us and helps in sleep.
Herbs will be listed along with their uses to increase your knowledge and for
later application on the following page. I included examples of teas that we use
and a list of what you will need so that you can do this yourself at home.
Remember that it is always advisable to consult a knowledgeable physician
before implementing something new into your existing program.
Herbs -
Catnip - used to relax and soothe, has been known to be used instead
of marijuana, great in teas for insomnia.
Chamomile - helps you rest and eases crankiness
Valerian root - has been used to treat epilepsy brought on by strong
emotions, helps reduce insomnia, soothes anxiety, and lowers blood
pressure
Vervain - relieves nervousness,
Sweet marjoram - soothes nerves
Lavender - relaxes
Motherwort - eases insomnia, jittery nerves, anxiety
Passionflower - eases emotional turmoil, insomnia, headaches, relieves
muscular and nervous tension, and a natural sedative
Skullcap - brings about calming effect, counteracts antispasmodic
properties, relieves muscle tension caused by stress
St. John’s Wort - relieves depression, emotional problems, and
anxiety
Rosemary - eases nervous tension and defuses tension headaches
Hawthorne - opens coronary arteries improving blood flow to the
heart
Ginseng - normalizes out of whack body functions,
adaptogen/balancer
Licorice - used as a neutralizer in many herbal teas, anti
inflammatory, anti viral, and has anti allergic compounds
Peppermint - natural sedative and tastes great in teas
Spearmint - natural sedative and tastes great in teas
Comfrey root - used in other countries to help soothe nerves, promotes
growth of healthy cells, and provides a source of B12

The Importance Of Magnesium

Magnesium is very important to our health, relationships, and in balancing many ailments or deficiencies that our body expresses when it is not happy.
My son had multiple learning and behavioral disorders that taking Magnesium helped in minimizing his aggressiveness, irritability, and helped with his sleep disorder.
The Mineral Magnesium when deficient in your system will bring about seizures, personality changes, numbness and tingling, abnormal heart rhythms, loss of appetite, headaches, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, and weakness.
Personality changes are confusion, anger, nervousness, disorientation, easily aroused, and irritability.
Great food sources are green leafy vegetables, seafood, nuts, cocoa, whole grains, black-eyed peas, poultry, crab, spinach, fish, oysters, broccoli, and bran cereals.
When my son was young I addressed his symptoms with mega vitamin therapy. When the body is deficient you give it more and then size down to maintain. It’s always good to consult a physician or naturopathic physician as far as dosage. Adding the food sources listed above to your families diet in addition to supplementation if well worth the effort.
Remember that Rome was not built in a day and it takes time to fill what’s been empty. A lot of the information that I have listed above is in my books “Vitamins, Minerals, and More! Food Sources, Functions of the Body, and Deficiencies (Symptoms), and ADD, ADHD, Autism, OCD, and More!”
My hope is that information helps you to help yourself or those whom may need this information! Spread the word! Thank you!

West Nile Virus, Lyme Disease, Fleas, Ticks, Mosquitos, and GARLIC

West Nile Virus, Lyme Disease, Fleas, Ticks, Mosquitos, and GARLIC
This is very important information from a multiple of sources to bring attention to the epidemic of the West Nile Virus and Lyme Disease. My own father died because he was bitten by mosquitos. He was walking in the woods with his sister and there were a bunch of dead birds surrounded by mosquitos. My father was bitten multiple times and it attacked his system and eventually shut down his organs. I miss him to this day and hope to share information that will help save lives. I wonder to this day if adding Garlic to his diet would have prevented his death as his sister was not affected. It is amazing how what we eat attracts or repels fleas, ticks, and mosquitos.
Alderleaf Wilderness College shares that if your diet is rich in whole grains, fruits, and vegetables have noticed fewer mosquito bites than those eating sugary foods. Another tidbit that what we eat impacts how we feel and what we attract. When we eat or intake Garlic it is offensive to ticks, fleas, and mosquitos.
Now to share information that I hope will help to save a life whether human or animal as Garlic contains Allicin which is antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal. Garlic is good at killing antibiotic resistant bacteria, reducing fungal infections (yeast infections), and fighting viruses/parasites. Stimulating infection fighting white blood cells makes Garlic the newest healing hero.
Garlic is an excellent source of potassium, iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese, B1, B6, and selenium. No wonder it is action packed to get the healing done! The Food Pharmacy book states in WWII British Md’s treated wounds with garlic reporting success in warding off septic poisoning and gangrene even typhus and cholera.
The Empire State Lyme Disease Association states that Vitamin B1, or thiamine, alters your human scent making you undesirable to mosquitos as stated earlier.
For a personal case study of 20 years is a family relative who lives in Vermont on 20 acres with lots of deer and woods on the property along with surrounding areas. Lyme Disease is a daily worry as ticks that are infected feed and mate on deer during their life cycle. Deer ticks are a large contributor but this disease has been increasing to almost all the states. So we ask, “How does a family that regularly takes walks in the country, through the woods, and through tall grass not ever get one tick?” This answer was given to me when I recently visited them in Bennington, Vermont as we were sitting down around the dining room table. My Uncle said we eat garlic in almost everything and love to roast it. He stated he’s been known to eat a couple of cloves with no problem as his family loves the taste. It must be inherited as I love garlic myself but not until after my father had passed did I find out all the wonderful properties it has.
My Uncle stated several times he’s had friends and visitors walk into the woods with him to hunt or to check out where General Stark camped on his land before the Battle of Bennington. What would happen 9 out of 10 times would be that he would walk out there in his shirt, shorts, and shoes without not even one tick while they would have one or more ticks on them. He now sees the correlation of eating garlic which is consistently in his system as a repellent for his family that eats it regularly.
A topical solution while out and about is applying a solution of 1 percent garlic combined with beeswax and petroleum jelly to ward off mosquitoes for up to 8 hours was shown to be affective per the Colorado State University Extension.
If your dog has fleas start adding garlic or granulated garlic to their food and you will see that fleas and ticks will no longer be a problem. I have personally had this success and have shared this information with many other animal lovers.
Italian and Swiss studies state those who eat garlic have increased protection from Esophageal Cancer, Colon Cancer, Breast Cancer, Ovarian Cancer, and Prostate Cancer. Just many more reasons to eat Garlic!
Additional research of those who have gotten Lyme Disease and West Nile Virus is that they ate larger quantities of garlic along with other therapies to fight the disease.
My hope is that this information saves a life. It’s not too late to take preventative measures to protect yourself and those you love. The Importance of Water in our Daily Lives

Today I thought I'd address the need for water in our daily lives. It's summer time and naturally we intake more to cool ourselves along with keeping us hydrated. But there are so many more reasons to drink more than a few 8 ounce glasses of water throughout the day.
Water helps to keep us feeling full which helps with each of us to intake less food, but also helps with the digestion process. I have underactive thyroid (hypothroid) and without drinking enough water life can be a bit uncomfortable. This is especially important when eating more carbs as they generally bind us up and increasing water intake helps to move it through the system more easily.
Also, I've had two doctors that told me that drinking an 8 ounce glass of water first thing in the morning helps with my waking up (cognitive progress). Sometimes I need a nice cool glass of water to speed up that effect!
Those of you with allergies will see a decrease in symptoms when drinking more water. When we are dehydrated our bodies produce histamines to fight allergies resulting in runny noses, watery eyes, etc. By drinking more water our body stays hydrated and lessens greatly the results of producing histamines. My own symptoms have decreased immensely from increasing my water consumption. One thing to remember is sometimes we think we are hungry but it's actually the body telling us it needs water, so have a big glass of water first.
Water is great for voiding out the toxins in our bodies, our kidneys process 200 quarts of blood daily and sifts out the toxins to be voided out in our urine. I don't even want to think about what would happen if we did not drink enough water to help the kidneys out! Not a pretty picture at all!
If you are experiencing muscle cramps or joint problems it a good time to drink more water to keep hydrated as that is another symptom the body expresses. Also may want to add a few Magnesiums to your glass of water as Magnesium is great for relieving cramps.
For more symptoms your body expresses when it does not have enough please check out my books. "Vitamins, Minerals, and More!" Food Groups, Functions of the Body, and Deficiencies(Symptoms) availabe in book, ebook, and App at Amazon, Barnes & Nobles, Google, and Apple.

The Importance of Vitamins

Vitamins: What They Do
Vitamins have specific role to play in the natural wear and tear of the body. There are many vitamin benefits that have a major impact on our overall health.
Vitamins are divided into two types: fat soluble and water soluble. Fat soluble vitamins (vitamin A, D, E and K) are stored in the fat tissues and liver. They can remain in the body up to six months. When the body requires these, they are transported to the area of requirement within the body with help of special carriers. Water soluble vitamins (B-vitamins and vitamin C) are not stored in the body like the fat soluble ones. They travel in the blood stream and need to be replenished everyday. Please click onto the link for the whole write up.http://www.exploresupplements.com/vitamins-sup…/vitamin-list For a detailed list of foods, what they do for your body, and deficiencies than please get my book Vitamins, Minerals, and More! at Amazon, Barnes & Nobles in book/ebook, Apple App, Amazon App, and Google App

Nutritional Supplementation at All Ages

I realize that I come across all for natural alternatives to prescription drugs and that is mostly correct.  However, I see where there are circumstances where a prescription drug does the job when it is followed up with nutrition.   My mother is a prime example.  She is now 79 and lives near me, but there was a time when she was living in Florida under my sister's care and she was on medications that basically made her a walking zombie. My sister placed her into an assisted living facility and it was not good. My mother doesn't really remember it. Finally she got into a nice Assisted Living Facility and was blessed to have a doctor and pharmacist that saw she needed a change in her medications along with nutritional supplementation.

Long story short I took over and moved my mother out where I live and she is living independently.  This is due to the fact that she is taking her prescriptions and a load of vitamins/minerals.    Each person's body is different and has specific needs and sometimes even though the prescription works it leads to deficiencies that have to be met through supplementation.  What is included in my mother's prescription list is Calcium w/D, B complex w/C, D3 1,000, Iron, B12, Fish Oil, and Potasium.  She takes about 2,700 mg of Potassium, but her body will not function right without it. This is where I know that there has to be a balance of feeding the body through diet or supplementation.  The two can work together.

If my mother had not gotten off the wrong prescriptions and put on the right ones with supplementation she would not be where she is now. I have my mother back in body and mind after many years. It's nice to have her back and it's nice to have her close. This is yet another reason why I wrote my books to share information that everyone can apply.  For those who want to learn more about what foods to eat to decrease symptoms or the Vitamins to take to decrease symptoms. Vitamins, Minerals, and More! Food Groups, Functions of the body, and Deficiencies(Symptoms).  Available at Amazon in paperback, ebook, and app. Barnes & Nobles on ebook.  Apps available for Apple, Google, and Amazon.  Please share so that we all can get healthier in body and mind.  Thank you  http://www.michellebeverbooks.com

Hypothyroidism and Hoshimoto's Thyroiditis

Today I would like to address Hypothyroidism and Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. I cannot tell you how many times people I know have brought up the fact that they know someone who has gained weight, been depressed, felt sluggish, can't get motiva...ted, has felt aches/pains, cold feet, dry skin/hair, and after some testing find out that they have Hypothyroidism.

What is not talked about is that Hashimoto's Thyroiditis has a multitude of the same symptoms. A blood test can verify whether or not you have a high TSH level which will indicate just how low your thyroid level is. I have Hypothyroidism and take a Naturethroid of 2 grains from a naturopathic doctor. It has stabilized my thyroid and I make sure to eat protein, nuts, and the other foods to keep my thyroid healthy. It is also important to take vitamin D, iron, omega-3 fatty acids, selenium, zinc, copper, vitamin A, the B vitamins. You can take them in pill form or you can find these in foods that you can eat. Vitamin D is important all the way around and D1000 taken daily with Calcium in the evening will process into the body. Calcium is not only good for our bones but is a natural relaxant while Vitamin D helps to ward off cancer. It is best to get your Iodine from seafood, eggs, asparagus, lima beans, mushrooms, spinach, sesame seeds, summer squash, Swiss chard, and garlic.

Our Vitamins, Minerals, and Trace Elements have many medicinal properties to help the body stay strong and help the mind stay healthy. To ensure that your body has enough of the Vitamins, Minerals, etc. have a blood test to verify what your body is lacking in it's nutrients. There are many tests available in various forms. If your conditions persist than you may want to have a MRI or Ultrasound to have your Pituitary Gland checked. I have both a primary doctor and a naturopathic doctor that I go to, but have found for my thyroid the naturopathic doctor was more detailed in diagnosing. This may not be your case, but educate yourself as much as you can prior to going in to be checked so that you can ask valid questions that will both provoke thought and follow through from your physician. I have written a book called Nutrition Made Simple that goes into incredible detail about what foods help with the functions of the body and how not getting enough will promote various symptoms listed. Nutrition Made Simple is now available for sale on my website www.michellebeverbooks.com

First Lady Michelle Obama and Eating Healthy

Recently sent my Nutrition Made Simple book and Correcting Learning &Behavioral Disorders Naturally to the White House with attention to First Lady Michelle Obama. On the White House website First Lady Michelle Obama has a page dedicated to the education of eating correctly along with exercise. I have sent them where a signature is required and it is in D.C., but no one has signed for it yet. I believe that not only should we do our best to eat correctly but also to know the reasons why we should eat a particular food. Knowledge is empowering and gives us reasons to follow through eating right other than hearing it is what you should do. I am very surprised that this knowledge is not made part of the curriculum of learning while in school.

I can not count the number of times I have been asked to share the information that I researched for common ailments along with learning/behavioral disorders. Wish me luck and place me in your prayers please that this information gets to all the places and individuals that it. It is the people who care that make this all worth while...

The Invisible Disability That Becomes Visible

The first moment you look into your baby’s eyes time stops and your desire to protect what God has given you is all encompassing.
It was not until my child was over a year of age that I began to notice changes in his behavior that were not typical of other children his age and it was getting progressively worse. I couldn’t initially explain what I couldn’t see that was going on inside of m...y child. This invisible disability would later have many names that for me would be the beginning of discovery and a chance to make his life better.
I divorced my son’s father before my son was a year of age and felt it was best for the both of us. What I did not realize until much later was that my ex-husband has Attention Deficit Hyper Disorder. Since I had no prior experience or knowledge about this disorder as it was an invisible disability.
The ex-husband’s parents did nothing to help their son and saw nothing wrong with their grandchild. It was all the same to them and that only made matters worse. There was no consistency of routine, candies, and he was constantly getting sick.
My own family had brought me up with routine and my mother raised us in the basic nutrition of eating balanced meals. She helped me to start writing a diary of all foods eaten at our home and to find out what my son was eating at the grandparents as they had visitation. The connection between foods and how they are processed can bring about adverse reactions. Red and yellow dyes brought about bad conduct with my son and were eliminated from his diet. All of these steps helped but did not stop the progression.
The darkest moment of dealing with this invisible disorder that only I could see was when your child is crying that they want to be a good boy and seeing the struggle going on inside him that he could not control himself. It is hard to explain the ache from within myself for my son to want to make it better for him.
What made my life lighter in one aspect was putting names to what I was finding out was happening to my son. The invisible becomes more tangible when you can put a definition or meaning to it. These symptoms he was expressing had names.
This invisible disability became visible with other parents, teachers, and those who lived near us that were able to see us on a regular basis. They began to see consistencies in how he reacted in various situations of home, school, and socializing. Family members and quite a few other people felt the solution was to put my son on prescription drugs. This works for a lot of children and good nutrition, but with my son he was an exception to the rule. Prescription drugs for him were just a Band-Aid and he just kept getting worse.
The challenge for me as a parent was to take the information that had been given to me and figure out what steps that I needed to do to help my son so that he could lead a normal life. My beliefs and having parents who believed in structure helped me tremendously. I began with taking those names given to my son’s behaviors and breaking them down into symptoms. Symptoms became deficiencies within the body that would need to be fed.
Fortunately I was funded by a friend to do research to help my son and hopefully to help others worldwide. This was and is our dream.
Family, friends, and his doctor were not receptive to this natural approach of using Vitamins, Minerals, and Anti-spasmodic Herbs. Many disagreements and arguments were a way of life until they went from skeptics to believers as my son got increasingly better.
My life was centered on helping my son and that was all there was to it. I gave my notice to a couple of jobs as they felt that I should be dating, not writing blogs to help others, and there was more to life than my son. When I gave birth to my son it was a commitment to being there for him no matter what situation. A few people I knew thought what I was trying to accomplish was commendable and beneficial to the multitudes. The people I shared information with and helped them with their child(ren) felt what I was doing was priceless.
I wrote a couple of books that would answer the questions that I was searching for and give options available.
What I can tell you now is that my son was diagnosed and later undiagnosed due to nutrition and anti-spasmodic herbs. The icing on the cake is that he is a consistent blessing to me and others. He went into the service and was asked to be on Honor Guard. He just finished Honor Guard and is planning on becoming a Psychologist and Japanese interpreter as soon as he gets out.
My challenge to you is to start seeking solutions today!

Vitamin C and Zinc for the Common Cold

Tis the season for many of us to start getting the sniffles, cough, and sore throats so I thought this would be the time to help others help themselves to getting better.

Whether you are working or not we all come into contact with people so our chances of catching the common cold or flu is something hard to hide from.  What is not commonly known is that both Vitamin C and Zinc can work together to boost your immune system. Vitamin C and Zinc can be taken in larger dosages during an illness and excess of either will be voided(exited) from the body.

Vitamin C with a cold or flu is best taken in the morning and noon after a meal as to not upset the stomach.  To fight an illness 2,000 mg in the morning and noon along with drinking orange juice will kick start you to getting better.

Zinc can be taken morning, noon, and night after a meal. A suggestion of three 50 mg of Zinc after a meal during illness speeds up healing.

Vitamin C sources are fruits, broccoli, potatoes , green peppers, spinach, cabbage, and those are just to name a few.

Zinc is a Mineral and food sources for it are seafood, beef, whole grains, soybeans, lentils, chicken, and mushrooms to start.

My hope is that you add to your daily regimen Vitamin C (1,000 mg) at least and Zinc (50 mg) to help you stay healthy.

It is always good to consult a physician or naturopathic doctor when starting anything new or if you have questions.

The information that I have just given you is out of my book "Nutrition Made Simple" which is very reader friendly and a great resource for all.

Hoping that you all have a wonderful holiday and share this information with your friends, co-workers, and relatives so that we all can stay healthier!

Communication in Relationships

I recently had a chance to talk to man who shared with me that his wife left him after many years spent together and that he would ask her what it is that she wanted from him. He stated all she would say is "you should already know what I want.  Ladies I hate to break it to you, but men are not mind readers no matter how much we would like them to be that for us. The movie with Mel Gibson in "What Women Want" is fiction...

Communication is key. There is not a way to get around communicating with your partner whether they are male or female. In relationships it is easy to let the ball drop and not pick it up as fast as you would have when you first met, but there are many ways to get that relationship back to where you both are satisfied.  This is the reason why I wrote Men... It's time to get a CLUE! because there are very few mind readers in this world and even though it is scary to open up and share what your needs are it is a far cry better than keeping a closed mouth.  I used to feel that as a woman men should already know what I want, but they really don't! Each of us are uniquely different and what works for one person may not for another, so they are scared to make a mistake that will turn us away from them.

I've spoken with a lot of men and women of what they needed from their partners to make it work, but both had a hard time verbalizing those needs to their partner. It's funny that we can tell our close friends what is wrong but the person who needs to hear it the most is left wondering what it is that will make us happy.

This book does a lot of the talking for you and hopefully will open up that door to talking more freely. It will hopefully make you appreciate the good things that they do and leaving the book in the bathroom or table without saying anything is a good way to start. Many women have even bought the book for their girlfriends as a confirmation as it is written in a light non aggressive manner that hits on all the hot topics.  Men have said after reading it themselves that they saw some of their partners in this so it's not one sided. Either way, both have seen and experienced more warmth after reading it and applying it.

Here's one fun tip to keep it from getting boring - get a half dollar and keep it with you so that when you both cannot make up your mind on a restaurant or movie, etc. ... Flip the coin and just go with it. Be impulsive and go with the flow.  It takes the stress out of it and is freeing for both. Live on the edge!  http://www.michellebeverbooks.com

This is a page from my Nutrition Made Simple book that is available at both Barnes & Nobles and Amazon in both ebook and print. The reason I thought of sharing a page is that it is easier to show people by an example.  Each Vitamin, Mineral, Trace Element, and more that is in my book is set up this way so that it is easy to see what food goes with what Vitamin, functions of the body it helps with, and deficiencies (SYMPTOMS) which is how the body expresses itself if it is not getting enough.  I was sooo.... tired of reading multiple books, pamphlets, and more while I was researching that I didn't want it to be a treasure hunt for others searching for the same information. I made it simple and easy.  My whole book is like this and makes it easy to make a grocery list, check out your own symptoms, and start becoming healthier!  For information about this book, other books, and/or to contact www.michellebeverbooks.com. PMS.... I'm here to help!

This post is to help those suffering from PMS and to offer some help in how to cope through those days of none comfort.

The women in my own family have had a history of PMS with terrible headaches, bloating, problems sleeping, irritability, and more.  The best advice my own father gave me was to take care of myself so that way I would feel better and so no one would be able to guess what time of the month it was.  Relationships suffer during this time and though I do believe that men have their own certain something going on it's not fair to behave badly if you have some alternatives.

Here is what the doctor told me that helped - 7 days prior to PMS is to take an Ibprofen each day along with Calcium.  I try to take Calcium daily as it also helps me to have a great nights sleep because it naturally relaxes me.

What my mother shared with me is to take a B complex (moods) daily, Magnesium, drink lots of water(lessens water retention), and eat bananas.  Bananas are a great source of Potassium.

So what did I do? Funny you should ask! I did all of the above! I normally take a Multi-Vitamin, Magnesium, Potasssium, Vitamin E, and Vitamin A.  I also, in the morning take 3,000 Mg of Vitamin C as it keeps the immune system going and helps my allergies.   I don't take the Vitamin C at night as it would keep me up.

On the worst day, I would take a muscle relaxer(over the counter) and 2 Ibprofens.  This would take the edge off and I could actually smile in the midst of it.

Guys this is information to be treasured as this helps more than words!  Ladies I believe in keeping them guessing!

I have more information about Vitamins, Minerals, Foods to eat to help lessen symptoms and more on my website www.michellejbeverbooks.com

Handling Consequences with Children

This post is about how to handle consequences with children when they are caught doing something they shouldn't. Before, during, and after writing "Correcting Learning & Behavioral Disorders Naturally" how to handle your child who reacts and loses control when they are being punished for doing something they shouldn't have led many parents to run away and hide themselves! There have been many times that is what I wanted to do, but what I learned is that when your child has done something they shouldn't the way to approach this whether your child has a disorder or not is... to tell the child the following:
 1. what you did was wrong and why (do not fall into the trap of them trying to turn it around on you)it was there choice and you physically did not make them make that wrong choice
2. hopefully you have learned that what you did was wrong, but if you make that mistake again you will have to choose between two punishments. Depending upon how your child reacts it is up to you to tell them the two punishments that they will have to choose from.
 3.  FOLLOW THROUGH! If they react like it doesn't matter, it does so don't fall for that.
Many children whether they have disorders or not have learned how to push your buttons and it is only through follow through that they gain respect for you.  If your child does have disorders than it is through mega vitamin therapy and anti spasmodic herbs that your child will start to be able to gain more control over themselves making your job easier. I've been there!  It's worth the effort and the rewards are endless...
I hope this helps parents out there that are struggling on why their child over reacts when disciplined.

Vitamin D Deficiency

Today's topic is Vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin D is necessary for calcium absorption, mineral deposits in bones and teeth, and much more. A great source for Vitamin D is egg yolks, fatty fish, butter, fortified milk, and our least favorite cod liver oil. I take a D3 1000mg a day and also eat 3 eggs in the morning. Some of the symptoms for this deficiency are nervousness, diarrhea, inability to sleep good (insomnia), and burning sensation in the mouth and throat. What is really important is to catch this early in children because for them it can result in bone deformation. When I wrote my book Nutrition Made Simple I did not realize that it would be a fundamental tool for me in addressing my own syptoms but also those of family and friends. I'll be mixing up my blogs addressing various topics that are in my three books that I'm asked about. I'm hoping that you will enjoy reading them, getting answers you've wondered about, and I can be helpful in making your day a better one.
